NURSING HOME MINISTRY
Coordinator:
Cliff Pulliam
Scriptural Mission: James 1:27 (NIV) -
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look
after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the
world".
Program:
On each Monday night at
6 p.m., a group of members from the Sandstone Drive Church of Christ go to Southwest
Nursing Home to conduct a short devotional. During this time, a group of men
lead singing, give short talks and pray. This program has been in existence at
Sandstone for approximately 25 years. The residents of the home seem to enjoy
this very much. We do this because James 1:27 tells us "to look after widows
and orphans".
Profile of a Nursing Home Resident (Erma Stevens)

Southwest Nursing Home has some very special people the
Sandstone members enjoy visiting and
worshipping with on Monday nights. For some of these residents, there are no family
near and thus they have adopted Sandstone and Sandstone has adopted them.
Erma Stevens is one of these very special people. Erma has been institutionalized for 30 years
and 28 of these at
Southwest. Of all the friends from Sandstone, Erma never forgets any of them.
She has developed a real friendship (sisterhood) with several of our ladies such as
Lillian and Patsy. This group likes to go with Erma to lunch at Wendy's and
shopping at The Family Dollar Store and Sawyer's Market.
Look how happy Erma is in the
picture above and in this picture. We all need to strive to be more like Erma.
